Possible Causes

Burned-out light bulb, Incorrect bulb type or wattage, Corroded light socket contacts, Failed light relay on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the opener before changing bulbs or inspecting the socket.

Check bulb:

  • Replace the bulb with a new, opener-rated bulb of the correct wattage (often 60W or less, or LED equivalent).
  • Avoid CFL bulbs; use LED bulbs marked as garage-door-opener compatible.

Inspect socket:

  • Look for corrosion or burned contacts inside the socket.
  • Gently bend the center contact tab upward slightly (with power off) to ensure good contact with the bulb base.

Test light function:

  • Restore power and press the light button on the wall control (if equipped).
  • If the bulb and socket are good but the light never turns on, the light relay on the control board may be defective and the board may need replacement.
