Possible Causes
Safety sensor eyes misaligned, Safety sensor wiring loose or broken, Sunlight interference at sensor, Dirty or blocked sensor lenses
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power to the Decko opener at the outlet before touching wiring. Do not work under a moving door.
Steps to check and correct photo eyes:
- Inspect sensor LEDs: On most Decko garage door openers, each safety sensor (photo eye) has an LED. One is the sending unit, the other is the receiving unit. Both LEDs should be solid when aligned and unobstructed.
- Clear obstructions: Remove any boxes, tools, leaves, or spider webs blocking the beam between the sensors.
- Clean lenses: Use a soft cloth and mild glass cleaner to gently clean the sensor lenses.
- Align sensors: Loosen the mounting wing nuts on each sensor bracket. Rotate the sensors until both LEDs are solid (not flickering). Tighten the wing nuts while keeping alignment.
- Check wiring: With power off, verify the low-voltage wires from the sensors to the opener head are firmly connected at the sensor terminals and at the opener’s “SENS” or “PHOTO” terminals. Look for staples that may have pierced the wire insulation and repair or replace damaged wire.
- Test operation: Restore power and try closing the door with the wall button. If the door only closes when you press and hold the wall button, the sensor circuit is still not correct—recheck alignment and wiring.
If the sensor LEDs will not come on at all even with correct wiring, the sensor pair may need replacement.
