Opener lights flash and unit will not run; six flashes or code “6” on Decko opener LED.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before working on low-voltage wiring. Do not bypass safety sensors for normal operation.
Inspect wiring path:
- Follow the wires: Trace the two-conductor cables from the Decko opener head down to each safety sensor.
- Look for damage: Check for crushed insulation, staple punctures, or splices that have pulled apart.
- Repair or replace: Cut out damaged sections and use new low-voltage garage door wire, or replace the entire run if heavily damaged.
Check connections:
- At the opener head: Confirm the sensor wires are landed on the correct terminals (often labeled “SENS” or with sensor icons). Tighten loose screws.
- At the sensors: Ensure the wires are firmly clamped in the sensor terminals and not reversed if your model is polarity-sensitive.
Test sensors:
- Restore power and observe the LEDs on both sensors. One should be solid, the other solid when aligned.
- If one LED is off even with good wiring, swap the sensors left-to-right. If the problem follows the sensor, replace the sensor pair.
Do not permanently jumper or bypass the sensor circuit; this defeats the safety system and violates code.
