Possible Causes

Seized motor shaft or gearbox, Jammed drive rail or carriage, Shorted motor windings, Overly heavy or unbalanced door causing overload

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Isolate mains power. Support the door with locking pliers on the tracks or door clamps before working on the operator.

  • Check for mechanical jam: Release the door and move it manually. If it is hard to move, correct door balance, track, or spring issues before operating the motor again.
  • Inspect drive rail: With the door disconnected, slide the carriage along the Garador rail by hand. It should move smoothly. Remove any debris and check that the chain or belt is not overtightened or kinked.
  • Examine motor and gearbox: Remove the operator cover. Try to rotate the motor shaft or output sprocket by hand (with power off). If it is seized, the motor/gearbox assembly will need replacement.
  • Reset overload: Some Garador models have a thermal overload that resets after cooling. Allow 15–30 minutes, then restore power and test with the door disconnected from the operator.
  • Measure motor resistance (advanced): Using a multimeter, check motor winding resistance against Garador specifications. A very low reading may indicate a shorted winding.

Warning: Do not repeatedly run a stalled motor; this can cause overheating and fire risk. If E4 returns immediately, replace the motor unit or contact a Garador service agent.
