Possible Causes
Trolley in manual release position, Emergency release rope stuck in down position, Broken trolley latch, Carriage not re-engaged after power outage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the door is fully closed before attempting to re-engage the opener. A raised, unbalanced door can fall.
Steps:
- Check trolley position: Look at the rail near the opener. If the trolley is separated from the moving carriage or hanging loose, it is disengaged.
- Reset release: On most Genie models, pull the red emergency release cord toward the door to reset the latch, then run the opener so the carriage moves and re-captures the trolley.
- Run opener: Press the wall button. The carriage should move and click into the trolley. Once engaged, the door should move with the opener.
- Inspect latch: If the trolley will not stay engaged, the latch may be broken. Replace the Genie trolley / carriage assembly.
