Possible Causes
Failed backup battery, Loose battery harness, Battery not charging, Defective charger circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect AC power before servicing the battery. Batteries can leak; wear gloves and eye protection if corrosion is present.
Steps:
- Locate battery: On Genie battery-backup models, the battery is usually in a compartment on or near the powerhead.
- Inspect connections: Check the battery harness for secure connections and corrosion. Clean terminals with a baking soda solution if needed and dry thoroughly.
- Check battery age: Backup batteries typically last 3–5 years. If older, replace with a genuine Genie replacement battery of the same type and rating.
- Test operation: After replacement, plug in the opener and allow the battery to charge. The error should clear automatically.
- Board issue: If a new battery does not charge and F15 persists, the charger circuit on the control board is likely failed; replace the Genie control board.
