Possible Causes

Corrupted firmware on logic board, Failed microcontroller, Surge-damaged logic circuit, Shorted low-voltage accessory wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before touching any internal wiring. Do not short terminals with tools.

Steps:

  • Power cycle: Unplug the opener for 60 seconds, then plug it back in. Watch the STATUS LED. If it returns to solid ON with no response to any buttons, proceed.
  • Isolate accessories: Disconnect all low-voltage wires from the terminal strip (wall console, safety beams, external receiver). Briefly short the PB/Wall Button and COM terminals with a small jumper wire. If the unit now runs, the issue is in the wall console or wiring.
  • Test with remote: Press a programmed remote. If the blue LEARN LED does not flicker and the motor does not move, the logic board is likely failed.
  • Inspect for surge damage: With power removed, inspect the board for burn marks or cracked components. If present, replace the board.
  • Replace logic board: Order the correct Genie replacement control board by model number. Transfer all wire connections one at a time to the new board, mount it, and test operation.
