Possible Causes
Open or shorted safety sensor wiring, Failed Safe-T-Beam sending or receiving unit, Miswired sensor leads at control board, Interference from LED bulbs or sunlight
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: The safety beam prevents injury. Do not bypass or permanently jumper sensors. Work with power off when handling wiring.
Steps:
- Check sensor LEDs: On Genie Safe-T-Beams, one side is the sender (usually amber LED) and the other is the receiver (green LED). Both should be lit solid when aligned and unobstructed.
- Realign sensors: Loosen the wing nuts and adjust until the green LED on the receiver is solid. Tighten nuts while holding alignment.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the two-conductor low-voltage cable from each sensor back to the opener. Look for staples through the wire, cuts, or splices. Repair any damage and ensure polarity is correct at the terminals.
- Test close with wall button: Hold the wall button down. If the door closes and F6 clears, the sensors or wiring were the issue.
- Replace sensors: If wiring is good but one LED will not light or stay solid, replace the Genie Safe-T-Beam sensor kit as a pair.
