Possible Causes
Broken wall console, Open circuit in low-voltage cable, Loose terminal screws, Reversed polarity on multi-function console
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before disconnecting low-voltage wires. Do not short terminals.
Steps:
- Check lock feature: Some Genie consoles have a lock/vacation switch. Ensure it is not engaged.
- Inspect wiring: Remove the wall console and check for loose or broken wires. Tighten screws and re-strip wire ends if corroded.
- Bypass test: At the opener, remove the wall console wires and briefly short the PB and COM terminals with a jumper. If the opener runs, the wiring or console is faulty.
- Test continuity: If you have a meter, test the cable from opener to console for continuity. Replace damaged cable.
- Replace console: Install a new Genie wall console if the old one is unresponsive.
