Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before adjusting limit cams or switches. Keep fingers clear of moving gears and chains.
Steps to correct limit/encoder fault:
- 1. Identify limit system: Older Gliderol units use mechanical cams and microswitches on the drive shaft; newer models may use electronic encoders or magnetic sensors.
- 2. Check mechanical cams: If your opener has plastic cams on the shaft, ensure they are not cracked or spinning freely. Adjust them so that the open cam actuates the switch at the fully open position and the close cam at the fully closed position.
- 3. Inspect microswitches: Press each limit switch by hand and listen for a distinct click. If no click or if the switch feels loose, it may be faulty and require replacement.
- 4. Examine encoder/magnet: For encoder-based Gliderol models, check that the encoder wheel or magnet ring is firmly attached and not contaminated with grease or metal filings. Clean gently and reseat.
- 5. Re-run limit setup: Restore power and follow the Gliderol manual’s procedure to set travel limits (usually holding the program button and driving the door to open/close positions).
If the opener cannot store limits or loses them after power cycling, the control board’s memory or encoder circuit may be defective and the board should be replaced.
