Possible Causes
Opener run too many cycles in short time, Motor thermal sensor tripped, Binding door causing overheating, Faulty thermal sensor on motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not bypass thermal protection. Overheating can cause fire or permanent motor damage.
- Allow cool-down: Unplug the opener and let it cool for at least 30 minutes. Avoid repeated rapid cycling of the door.
- Check door for binding: With the opener disconnected via the emergency release, move the door by hand. Correct any binding, bent tracks, or damaged rollers.
- Inspect motor area: After cooling, remove the opener cover and check for dust buildup around the motor and vents. Clean gently with compressed air.
- Test after cool-down: Restore power and run a single open/close cycle. If the code clears and the opener runs normally, reduce usage intensity.
- Replace motor or opener head: If the opener overheats quickly under normal load, the motor or its thermal sensor may be failing. Replace the motor assembly or the entire Guardian opener head.
