Possible Causes

Emergency release not re-engaged, Broken traveler (trolley) on rail, Stripped drive gear or carriage, Faulty travel module or limit switch assembly

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before working on the rail or trolley. Ensure the door is fully closed or securely propped open.

  • Check emergency release: Verify the red release cord has been pulled back toward the opener to re-engage the trolley. Manually move the door until the trolley clicks back into the carriage.
  • Observe operation: Restore power and run the opener while watching the rail. If the chain/belt moves but the trolley does not, the trolley or carriage is stripped or broken.
  • Inspect trolley: Look for cracked plastic, missing teeth, or a broken latch on the Guardian traveler. Replace the trolley assembly if damaged.
  • Check drive gear: If the motor runs but the chain/belt does not move, the internal drive gear may be stripped. Remove the opener cover and inspect the main drive gear.
  • Replace travel module: On some Guardian models, a travel module or limit switch assembly on the rail reports position. If the opener stops immediately and shows code 6, this module may be defective and should be replaced with a Guardian-compatible part.
