Possible Causes

Seized Henderson drive trolley, Jammed door mechanism, Failed motor start capacitor, Worn motor bearings

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power. Do not repeatedly cycle a stalled motor; it can overheat and cause damage.

Steps:

  • Check door movement: Release the door from the opener and move it by hand. If the door is stiff or jammed, correct the mechanical issue (rollers, tracks, springs) before working on the opener.
  • Inspect trolley and rail: With the door disconnected, run the opener briefly (power restored). If the motor hums but the chain/belt does not move, inspect the Henderson trolley for binding or broken parts.
  • Check motor capacitor: Unplug the opener, remove the cover, and locate the motor start capacitor (usually a cylindrical component). Look for bulging or leakage. Replace with an identical Henderson‑specified capacitor if defective.
  • Spin test: With power off, try to rotate the motor shaft by hand. If it is stiff or seized, the motor bearings may have failed and the Henderson drive motor assembly will need replacement.
  • Reset overload: Some Henderson models have a thermal overload that resets after cooling. Allow 20–30 minutes, then test again after resolving mechanical causes.
