Possible Causes
Obstructed photocell beam, Misaligned photocell brackets, Dirty photocell lenses, Broken photocell wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect mains power to the Hormann operator before touching wiring. Keep clear of the door travel path.
Step-by-step:
- Check for obstructions: Remove any objects, cobwebs, leaves or packaging blocking the photocell beam between the transmitter and receiver units.
- Inspect alignment: Both photocell heads (e.g. Hörmann EL 101 / EL 301 / FIT series) must face each other directly at the same height. Loosen the mounting screws slightly, adjust until the indicator LED on the receiver is solid (not flashing), then retighten.
- Clean lenses: Wipe the sensor lenses gently with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use aggressive cleaners.
- Check wiring: With power off, inspect the low‑voltage cable from the operator head to the photocells for cuts, crushed sections or loose terminals at the control board (e.g. terminals “PHOTOCELL” or “S/S”). Re‑terminate any loose wires and ensure polarity is correct per the Hormann wiring diagram.
- Test operation: Restore power and try a close command. If the code clears and the door moves, monitor several cycles. If the code returns, the photocell set may be defective and should be replaced.
