Possible Causes
Door binding in tracks, Stiff hinges or rollers, Incorrect force adjustment, Obstruction on door path
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power. Support the door manually to prevent uncontrolled movement.
Step-by-step:
- Check for obvious obstructions: Remove any items, ice, stones or debris from the door travel path, threshold and tracks.
- Test manual operation: Release the Hormann operator using the emergency release cord. Move the door by hand. It should move smoothly with moderate effort. If it is heavy or jerky, the door hardware needs service.
- Inspect rollers and hinges: For sectional doors, check Hormann rollers, hinges and track brackets for bends, rust or misalignment. Lubricate moving joints with a suitable garage door lubricant (not grease on tracks).
- Check tracks: Ensure vertical and horizontal tracks are straight and parallel. Tighten loose mounting brackets.
- Re‑adjust force settings: On the operator head (Supramatic/Promatic), follow the manual to slightly increase the opening/closing force parameters, but do not exceed recommended limits. Excessive force is unsafe.
- Relearn travel: Perform a travel limit and force learning cycle as described in the Hormann manual.
