Possible Causes
Damaged encoder cable, Faulty encoder on motor shaft, Contaminated encoder disc, Loose encoder connector on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate mains power before opening the operator housing.
Step-by-step:
- Locate encoder: On many Hormann operators, a small encoder is mounted on the motor or gearbox shaft with a multi‑core cable to the control board.
- Inspect cable: Check for pinched, cut or oil‑contaminated encoder wiring. Repair or replace damaged cable.
- Check connectors: Reseat the encoder plug on the control board and at the encoder body. Look for bent pins or corrosion.
- Clean encoder disc: If accessible, gently blow away dust from the encoder disc or magnetic ring. Do not use solvents.
- Relearn travel: After reconnecting, power up and perform a full travel learning cycle.
- If fault persists: Replace the encoder module. If a separate encoder is not available, the entire motor unit may need replacement.
