Possible Causes
Misadjusted travel limit, defective limit switch assembly, disconnected limit wiring harness, stripped limit nut or drive
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before adjusting internal components. Keep clear of the door path.
- Reset travel limits: On models with mechanical limit screws, turn the UP and DOWN limit screws slightly in the direction needed and test. On models with electronic limits, use the program buttons per the LiftMaster manual to re-set open and close positions.
- Inspect limit switch assembly: Remove the cover and locate the limit switch or travel module on the rail or near the motor. Ensure the actuator moves with the trolley and is not broken or stuck.
- Check wiring: Verify the limit switch harness is fully seated on the logic board and not damaged.
- Test operation: Restore power and run a full open/close cycle. If the LED pattern persists and the opener stops immediately, the limit switch assembly may be defective.
- Replace limit assembly: Install the correct LiftMaster limit switch or travel module for your model, then reprogram travel limits.
