Possible Causes

Photo eye sensors misaligned, Photo eye wiring damaged, Sunlight interference at sensor, Dirty or blocked sensor lenses

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power to the opener before touching wiring. Do not operate the door if it may close on people, pets, or vehicles.

Step-by-step:

  • 1. Inspect the photo eyes: Locate the Linear safety sensors mounted near the bottom of the vertical tracks on both sides. Check that both LED indicators are lit and steady. If one is off or flickering, alignment or wiring is suspect.
  • 2. Clean the lenses: With power off, gently wipe each sensor lens with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust, cobwebs, or moisture. Restore power and see if the F1 clears.
  • 3. Align the sensors: Loosen the mounting brackets slightly and rotate each sensor until both LEDs are solid (not blinking). Tighten the brackets while keeping alignment.
  • 4. Check for obstructions: Remove any objects, tools, or debris from the sensor beam path. Ensure nothing can swing or roll into the beam.
  • 5. Inspect wiring: With power off, verify the low-voltage wires from each sensor to the Linear head unit are intact, not pinched, and firmly connected to the sensor terminals and the opener’s sensor terminals. Repair or replace damaged wire.
  • 6. Test operation: Clear the area, then press the wall button. If the door now operates normally, the fault is resolved. If F1 persists, the sensor itself may be defective and should be replaced.
