Possible Causes
Broken sensor wire between head unit and photo eye, Shorted sensor cable at staples or track, Incorrect wiring at sensor terminals, Failed photo eye sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before working on wiring. Do not bypass safety sensors for normal operation.
- 1. Verify wall button behavior: If the door closes only when the wall button is held, the opener is in safety override mode, confirming a sensor circuit issue.
- 2. Inspect low-voltage cable: Follow the two-conductor or four-conductor cable from the head unit to each Linear photo eye. Look for crushed insulation, staples driven through the wire, or splices that have pulled apart.
- 3. Check terminal connections: At the opener, confirm the sensor wires are landed on the correct sensor terminals (refer to the Linear wiring label on the cover). Tighten any loose screws. Repeat at each sensor.
- 4. Test continuity: With power off, disconnect the sensor wires at the opener and use a multimeter to check continuity from the opener end to each sensor. Repair or replace any open or shorted run.
- 5. Swap sensors (if possible): If you have a known-good Linear sensor, temporarily connect it at the opener with a short test lead. If F2 clears, the original sensor or its wiring is defective.
- 6. Replace defective sensor or cable: Install a new matching Linear photo eye and/or low-voltage cable, then re-align sensors and test.
