Possible Causes
Failed motor start capacitor, Open motor winding, Loose motor harness connector on board, Burned relay on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the opener before opening the housing. Capacitors can store charge; discharge safely by leaving the unit unplugged for several minutes.
- Listen for motor hum: When you command the opener (before unplugging), note whether you hear a humming sound. A hum with no movement often points to a bad capacitor or stuck motor.
- Inspect capacitor: Inside the Marantec head, locate the cylindrical start capacitor. Look for bulging ends, leaks, or cracks. Replace with an identical microfarad (µF) and voltage rating Marantec‑approved capacitor if damaged.
- Check motor connector: Ensure the multi‑pin motor harness is fully seated on the control board.
- Test after replacement: Reassemble, restore power, and test operation. If the motor still does not run and there is no hum, the motor windings or board relay may be failed, requiring replacement of the motor or entire head.
