Possible Causes

Door too heavy due to broken or weak torsion/extension springs, Binding in door hardware causing high load, Motor windings partially shorted, Control board current sensor fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Springs are under extreme tension. Do not attempt to adjust or replace torsion or extension springs yourself; contact a qualified door technician.

  • Test door balance: Disconnect the opener using the emergency release. Lift the door manually. If it is very heavy or cannot be lifted, the springs are likely broken or out of adjustment and must be serviced professionally.
  • Inspect for binding: Check tracks, rollers, and hinges for damage or misalignment. Lubricate metal rollers, hinges, and bearings with a garage door lubricant (not grease) and correct any obvious misalignment.
  • Allow motor to cool: If the opener has been cycled repeatedly, allow 15–20 minutes for the motor thermal protector to reset, then test again.
  • Check for visible motor damage: With power disconnected, inspect the motor housing on the Marantec head for burnt smell or discoloration. If present, the motor assembly should be replaced.
  • If door moves freely by hand: Yet the opener still trips code 6, the motor or control board current sensing circuit is likely failing and the opener head should be replaced.
