Possible Causes
Dirty or damaged encoder wheel, Loose encoder sensor, Faulty encoder cable, Control board input failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before working near the motor shaft or moving parts.
- Locate encoder: On many Merlin belt/chain drive units, a small encoder wheel or magnetic sensor is mounted on the motor shaft or gear assembly. Refer to your model diagram.
- Clean encoder: If there is an optical wheel, gently clean it with a soft brush or compressed air to remove dust and cobwebs. Do not bend the wheel.
- Check sensor alignment: Ensure the encoder sensor is correctly positioned relative to the wheel or magnet and firmly mounted.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the encoder cable back to the control board. Look for pinched or broken wires and reseat the connector on the PCB.
- Test operation: Restore power and run several full cycles. If the error persists, the encoder or control board may need replacement.
