Possible Causes
Failed motor start capacitor, Open motor winding, Loose motor harness connector, Burned relay on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and wait several minutes for capacitors to discharge before touching internal components.
- Listen for hum: When attempting to run, if you previously heard a humming motor with no movement, the start capacitor is a prime suspect.
- Inspect wiring: Remove the cover and check the motor harness plug at the control board and motor. Reseat connectors firmly.
- Check capacitor: Locate the motor start capacitor (usually a cylindrical can). Look for bulging, leaks, or burn marks. Replace with a Mighty Mule-compatible capacitor of the same µF rating and voltage.
- Test after replacement: Restore power and test operation. If the motor still does not run and there is no hum, the motor winding or control board relay may be open.
- Advanced testing: With proper tools and safety, a technician can ohm-test the motor windings and verify relay operation. Replace the motor or control board as indicated.
