Garage door starts to close, moves a short distance, then reverses to open; opener light flashes three times.

Safety first: Disconnect power before adjusting hardware. Do not attempt to repair a broken torsion spring yourself.

Steps to correct:

• Check for physical obstructions: Inspect the tracks, rollers, and floor area for tools, debris, or ice buildup blocking the door.
• Test door balance manually: Pull the emergency release cord to disconnect the door from the Motorlift opener. Lift the door by hand. It should move smoothly and stay about halfway open. If it is heavy or binds, call a professional to service springs and hardware.
• Inspect tracks and rollers: Look for bent track sections or worn rollers. Lubricate metal rollers and hinges with garage door lubricant (not grease). Replace damaged rollers or track sections.
• Adjust down travel limit: On the Motorlift opener head, locate the DOWN travel adjustment screw or digital setting. Increase the down travel slightly so the door can fully close without hitting the floor too early.
• Adjust down force (if equipped): Turn the DOWN force adjustment slightly clockwise to increase force, following the Motorlift manual. Do not over-adjust; the door must reverse when it hits an obstruction.
• Reconnect and test: Re-engage the trolley to the opener, restore power, and test closing several times.
