Possible Causes

Failed RPM sensor on motor shaft, Loose RPM sensor wiring, Defective motor control board, Obstruction causing motor to stall

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Motorlift opener. Capacitors inside can hold charge; avoid touching board components with bare hands.

Steps to diagnose:

  • Check for mechanical binding: Disconnect the door using the emergency release and move it by hand. If the door is stiff or jammed, correct the mechanical issue before suspecting electronics.
  • Inspect the RPM sensor: Remove the opener cover. Locate the small RPM sensor (often an optical or magnetic sensor) near the motor shaft or gear. Ensure it is firmly mounted and not covered in dust or debris.
  • Check wiring: Follow the small wires from the RPM sensor to the logic/control board. Make sure the connector is fully seated and wires are not pinched or broken.
  • Clean the sensor wheel: If there is an encoder wheel on the motor shaft, gently clean it with a dry cloth so the sensor can read it properly.
  • Test operation: Reassemble the cover, restore power, and test. If the 5-flash error persists, the RPM sensor or control board likely needs replacement.
  • Replace parts as needed: Replace the RPM sensor first (lower cost). If that does not resolve the issue, replace the Motorlift logic/control board.
