Possible Causes
Misaligned Nice photocells, Broken or shorted photocell wiring, Failed Nice EPM/EPMB safety sensor, Incorrect photocell jumper configuration on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before changing wiring. Do not bypass safety devices permanently.
- Check LED indicators on photocells: Most Nice photocells (e.g., EPM, EPMB, EPS) have an LED. One side is the transmitter, the other is the receiver. Ensure both are firmly mounted and the receiver LED is solid when aligned.
- Clean and align: Wipe lenses with a soft cloth. Loosen mounting screws and adjust until the receiver LED stays solid when the door path is clear.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the 2‑ or 4‑wire cable from the photocells back to the Nice control board (terminals often labeled PHOTO, PHOT, or 8–9). Look for cuts, crushed insulation, or loose screws. Tighten terminals and repair or replace damaged cable.
- Check jumpers: If photocells are not installed, Nice boards usually require a factory jumper across the photocell terminals. Confirm the correct bridge is in place per the manual. If photocells are installed, remove any bypass jumper.
- Test sensor function: With power restored, command the door to close. Break the beam with your hand; the door should stop or reverse. If E2 persists and the LED on one photocell never lights, replace that photocell pair.
