Possible Causes

Activated or damaged Nice resistive safety edge, Shorted safety edge cable, Incorrect safety edge configuration on control board, Mechanical obstruction in door path

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before working on wiring. Never bypass a safety edge permanently.

  • Inspect the bottom edge: If your Nice system uses a rubber safety edge with an internal sensor, check for cuts, deformation, or water ingress. Press along the edge to feel for uniform resistance.
  • Check wiring to safety edge module: Trace the cable from the edge to the Nice control board or to a Nice interface module (e.g., OXI, SMXI, or dedicated edge interface). Look for crushed or severed cable, especially at hinge points.
  • Verify configuration: On the control board, confirm jumpers or menu settings match the type of safety edge installed (resistive, optical, or none). If no edge is installed, the terminals may need a factory bridge resistor or jumper as specified by Nice.
  • Remove obstructions: Examine the floor, tracks, and door panels for objects or ice buildup that could trigger the safety edge or cause excessive resistance.
  • Test operation: Restore power and command the door to close. Gently press the safety edge; the door should stop or reverse. If E5 persists and the edge does not respond correctly, replace the safety edge assembly or interface module.
