Possible Causes
Failed backup battery, Loose battery connections, Defective DC power converter, Battery not recognized by control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the opener before opening the battery compartment. Batteries can leak corrosive electrolyte.
- 1. Locate battery compartment: On battery backup models, the battery is usually in a compartment on the side or back of the opener head.
- 2. Inspect battery: Open the cover and check for swelling, leakage, or corrosion on the terminals. If present, the battery must be replaced and the compartment cleaned carefully.
- 3. Check connections: Ensure the battery leads are firmly attached to the correct terminals (red to +, black to -). Tighten any loose spade connectors.
- 4. Test battery voltage: Use a multimeter to measure battery voltage. If significantly below the rated voltage (e.g., under 11V for a 12V battery), replace it with an Overhead Door-approved replacement.
- 5. Reset the opener: After installing a new battery, unplug the opener for 30 seconds, then plug back in to allow the control board to recognize the battery.
- 6. Replace DC power module if needed: If the code persists with a good battery and connections, the DC converter or control board battery circuit may be defective and require replacement.
