Overhead Door opener LED flashes 7 times and lights flash, door does not move

Safety first: Unplug the opener before removing covers. Capacitors and boards can retain charge; avoid touching exposed conductors.

• 1. Power cycle the opener: Unplug for 60 seconds, then plug back in. Sometimes a transient fault clears. Try operating the door once.
• 2. Inspect RPM sensor: Remove the opener cover. Locate the RPM sensor (often a small board or sensor near the motor shaft or gear). Check that it is firmly mounted and that its wiring harness is fully seated on both the sensor and the logic board.
• 3. Look for obvious board damage: Examine the main control board for burnt components, scorch marks, or swollen capacitors. Evidence of surge damage usually requires board replacement.
• 4. Check harness connections: Gently unplug and replug the motor and sensor harnesses to ensure good contact. Do not pull on the wires; grasp the connectors.
• 5. Test operation: Restore power and attempt to run the opener. If the 7-flash code returns immediately and the motor does not move, the RPM sensor or logic board is likely defective.
• 6. Replace failed component: Replace the RPM sensor first if available as a separate part. If the issue persists, replace the Overhead Door logic/control board with the exact model-compatible part.
