Possible Causes
Sheared drive coupler between motor and gear, Stripped internal gear, Loose motor shaft set screw, Broken sprocket shaft
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the opener before opening the housing. Do not attempt to hold moving parts by hand.
- 1. Confirm symptom: Watch the rail while activating the opener. If the motor hums and you hear internal spinning but the belt/chain is stationary, the internal drive is disconnected.
- 2. Remove cover: Open the Ryobi motor head and inspect the connection between the motor shaft and main drive gear or coupler.
- 3. Check coupler and gear: Look for broken plastic couplers, stripped gear teeth, or a loose set screw on the motor shaft. Tighten or replace components as needed.
- 4. Replace assembly if needed: If multiple internal parts are damaged, replacing the entire motor head assembly may be more practical than individual parts.
