Possible Causes
Misaligned safety sensors, Blocked safety sensor beam, Faulty safety sensor wiring, Defective safety sensor pair
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power to the Skylink opener at the breaker or unplug it before touching wiring. Do not operate the door if the safety sensors are bypassed or not working.
- Check for obstructions: Inspect the area between the two safety sensors at the bottom of the tracks. Remove any boxes, tools, leaves, spider webs, or debris blocking the infrared beam.
- Verify sensor LEDs: Restore power. Each Skylink safety sensor typically has an LED. One is the sending unit, the other is the receiving unit. Confirm both LEDs are lit solid. If one is off or flickering, alignment or wiring is suspect.
- Align the sensors: Loosen the wing nuts on the sensor brackets. Gently rotate and tilt each sensor until both LEDs stay solid when the door is fully open and fully closed. Tighten the wing nuts while holding alignment.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the low‑voltage wires from each sensor back to the Skylink opener head. Look for staples piercing the insulation, cuts, or loose connections at the terminal block. Reseat the wires and ensure they are in the correct polarity terminals as per the Skylink manual.
- Test operation: Press the wall console. If the door now moves and E1 clears, the issue was alignment or wiring. If E1 persists and one sensor LED will not light even with correct wiring, replace the Skylink safety sensor pair.
