Possible Causes
Dirty or misaligned travel encoder, Damaged encoder wheel or strip, Loose encoder wiring, Faulty control board position circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before opening the opener housing or working near moving gears.
- Locate encoder: On many Skylink models, a small optical or magnetic encoder is mounted on the motor shaft or along the rail. Refer to your model’s diagram.
- Clean sensor: Gently clean the encoder wheel or strip and the sensor window with a soft, dry brush or compressed air to remove dust and debris.
- Check mounting: Ensure the encoder sensor is firmly mounted and properly aligned with the wheel/strip. Tighten any loose screws.
- Inspect wiring: Verify the encoder’s small harness is fully seated on the control board and not pinched or damaged.
- Re‑learn travel: After reassembly, perform a full travel learn cycle as described in the Skylink manual (usually running the door fully open and closed). If E13 persists, replace the Skylink travel encoder sensor or the main control board.
