Possible Causes

Door binding in tracks, Incorrect down force setting, Bent or damaged door sections, Worn rollers or hinges

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not increase force settings to compensate for a binding or damaged door. A heavy or binding door can cause serious injury or damage.

  • Test door balance: Pull the emergency release cord to disconnect the Skylink opener from the door. Lift the door manually halfway. It should stay in place. If it falls or rises, the springs or door balance need professional adjustment.
  • Inspect tracks and rollers: Check vertical and horizontal tracks for dents, bends, or misalignment. Ensure track mounting brackets are tight. Spin each roller; replace any that are seized, flat‑spotted, or wobbly.
  • Lubricate moving parts: Apply a small amount of garage door lubricant to rollers (except nylon wheels), hinges, and the door’s pivot points. Do not lubricate the tracks heavily; just wipe them clean.
  • Adjust down force: Reconnect the opener. Locate the DOWN FORCE adjustment on the Skylink head. Turn it slightly clockwise (usually 1/8–1/4 turn) and test. The door should close firmly but reverse if it hits a 2x4 laid flat on the floor under the door.
  • Re‑test safety reversal: Place a 2x4 under the door and close it. If the door does not reverse upon contact, reduce force and correct door mechanical issues instead of increasing force further.
