Possible Causes
Shorted sensor wires, Broken wire between sensor and opener, Incorrect wiring at terminals, Defective sensor harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the opener before manipulating sensor wiring. Do not twist wires together while power is applied.
- Visual inspection: Follow the sensor wires from each Skylink safety sensor to the opener. Look for crushed insulation, staples through the wire, or splices that have come apart.
- Terminal check: At the opener, remove both sensor wires from the sensor terminals. Inspect for corrosion or loose screws. Trim and re‑strip the wire ends if necessary, then reconnect firmly.
- Continuity test (optional): Using a multimeter set to continuity, test each conductor from the opener end to the sensor end. Replace the cable if open or shorted.
- Swap sensors: If wiring is good but E8 persists, replace the Skylink safety sensor pair. Ensure correct polarity when reconnecting.
