Possible Causes
Stuck wall button, Shorted wall control wiring, Neighboring remote on same code (older dip-switch models), Faulty logic board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Until resolved, disconnect power or pull the emergency release and secure the door in the closed position to prevent unintended opening.
- Inspect wall console: Check for a stuck button or contamination causing constant contact. Remove the console from the wall and test with it disconnected.
- Check low-voltage wiring: Look for damaged insulation or wires pinched under staples that could be shorting the control circuit.
- Reprogram remotes: On older Wayne Dalton units with dip switches, change the code on both opener and remotes. On rolling-code units, clear memory and reprogram only your remotes.
- Board replacement: If the opener still activates with all controls disconnected, the logic board may be intermittently triggering and should be replaced.
