Wall console LED flashes five times and opener stops and reverses a few inches after starting to close.

Safety first: A garage door is heavy and under spring tension. Do not loosen springs or center bearing plates unless you are trained and equipped. Serious injury can occur.

• Test door balance: Pull the emergency release to disconnect the opener. Lift the door by hand to mid-height and release. A properly sprung door should stay in place or move slowly. If it slams down or is very heavy, the springs need professional adjustment or replacement.
• Inspect tracks and rollers: Look for bent vertical or horizontal tracks, rollers that are off-track, or debris in the tracks. Straighten minor bends with a soft mallet and pliers. Clean tracks and lubricate rollers with a garage door lubricant (not grease).
• Check for binding points: Slowly move the door by hand through its full travel. Note any tight spots. Correct misaligned tracks by loosening mounting bolts slightly, tapping the track into alignment, and retightening.
• Inspect opener hardware: With power disconnected, check the drive rail, trolley, and sprocket for damage or excessive resistance.
• Capacitor/motor check: If the door moves freely by hand but the opener hums and stops with F5, the motor start capacitor or motor may be failing. These are internal electrical components; replacement is best done by a technician or by replacing the opener head.
