Possible Causes
Failed RPM sensor on motor shaft, Loose or damaged RPM sensor wiring harness, Debris blocking RPM sensor wheel, Faulty logic board input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing opener covers. Do not touch the capacitor terminals; they can hold a charge.
- Access RPM sensor: Remove the opener light lens and top/bottom covers as needed to expose the motor shaft. Look for a small sensor near a slotted or magnetized wheel on the shaft.
- Clean sensor and wheel: Use compressed air or a soft brush to remove dust, cobwebs, or metal shavings from the sensor and wheel.
- Check harness connection: Follow the small wire harness from the RPM sensor to the logic board. Ensure the connector is fully seated and not corroded.
- Inspect for damage: If the sensor housing is cracked or the wheel is loose on the shaft, replace the RPM sensor assembly.
- Test operation: Reassemble the covers, restore power, and test the opener. If the fault persists, the logic board may not be reading the sensor correctly and may need replacement.
