Opener operates but door moves very slowly compared to normal.

Safety first: Do not continue to run an overloaded or failing motor; it can overheat.

• Test door balance: Disconnect the opener and move the door by hand. If it is heavy or binds, have the door hardware and springs serviced.
• Listen to motor: If the motor sounds strained or hums excessively, the start capacitor or motor may be failing.
• Capacitor replacement: On some Wayne Dalton models, the start capacitor is replaceable. With power disconnected, replace it with the exact value and type.
• Consider opener replacement: If the motor is weak and the door hardware is in good condition, replacing the opener head may be more economical than motor repair.
