Possible Causes
Overloading chamber with food waste, Running without sufficient water flow, Partially jammed grind plate increasing motor load, Failing motor windings causing overheating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power before inspection. Never work on a hot motor; allow it to cool for at least 10–15 minutes.
- Step 1 – Let the unit cool: If the overload has tripped, wait until the motor housing is cool to the touch.
- Step 2 – Clear partial jams: Use a 1/4" hex key on the bottom of the unit to rotate the motor shaft back and forth. Then use tongs to remove any fibrous or stringy material (celery, corn husks, etc.) from the grinding chamber.
- Step 3 – Press the reset button: Once cooled and cleared, press the reset button on the bottom until it clicks.
- Step 4 – Operate with proper water flow: Run a strong stream of cold water before, during, and after grinding. Feed waste gradually instead of all at once.
- If overload trips repeatedly: The motor windings or thermal protector may be failing. At this point, replacement of the motor assembly or entire disposal is recommended rather than repeated resets.
