Possible Causes
Loose dishwasher hose clamp, Cracked dishwasher inlet nipple on disposal, Deteriorated rubber hose, Knockout plug fragments preventing seal
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power to the disposal and dishwasher. Avoid running either appliance until the leak is fixed.
- Inspect hose connection: Locate the dishwasher hose on the side of the American Standard disposal. Check that the clamp is positioned over the nipple and tightened.
- Reseat hose: Loosen the clamp, slide the hose fully onto the inlet nipple, then retighten the clamp securely.
- Check hose condition: If the hose is cracked or brittle, replace it with a new dishwasher drain hose of the same diameter.
- Inspect inlet nipple: If the plastic or metal nipple on the disposal is cracked or broken, the disposal body is compromised and the unit must be replaced.
- Test for leaks: Run the dishwasher drain cycle or pour water into the dishwasher and trigger a drain. Watch for drips at the connection.
