Safety first: Turn OFF the switch and wait for the motor to stop completely before attempting a reset.
- Press reset: Press the red reset button on the bottom of the American Standard disposal.
- Clear chamber: Remove fibrous or hard materials with tongs. Cut large items into smaller pieces before grinding in the future.
- Use proper technique: Always run strong cold water before, during, and after using the disposal. Feed waste gradually rather than all at once.
- Avoid problem items: Do not grind corn husks, artichoke leaves, onion skins, large bones, or non-food items.
