Possible Causes
Tripped but non-resetting internal overload, Failed internal start switch, Open motor winding, Loose internal connection
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power at the breaker before any inspection.
- Press external reset: Press the red reset button on the bottom of the American Standard disposal. If it clicks, try running the unit again.
- Check for jams: Manually rotate the turntable with a hex wrench or wooden stick to ensure it is free.
- Listen closely: If you only hear a faint click from the bottom when switching on, the internal overload or start mechanism may have failed.
- Non-serviceable parts: Internal overloads and start switches are not user-replaceable on these disposals. If power is present and the rotor is free but the motor will not run, replace the unit.
