Astracast Induced Vibration or Resonance in Plumbing

Astracast disposal causes a noticeable buzzing or humming noise in nearby plumbing even when not running.

Possible Causes

Loose waste pipes touching cabinet or wall, Rigid metal piping directly connected to Astracast outlet, High water pressure causing pipe vibration, Shared mounting bracket transmitting vibration

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Turn OFF power to the disposal before adjusting plumbing supports.

  • Step 1 – Identify contact points: Run water (without the disposal) and feel for vibrating pipes touching wood or other pipes.
  • Step 2 – Add cushioning: Use rubber pipe clamps or foam sleeves to isolate pipes from cabinet walls and each other.
  • Step 3 – Check discharge connection: Ensure a short section of flexible pipe or coupler is used between the Astracast outlet and rigid plumbing to reduce vibration transfer.
  • Step 4 – Secure pipes: Add or tighten pipe brackets as needed.

Warning: Do not overtighten clamps on plastic pipes; they can crack.
