Possible Causes
Bone, utensil, or hard object wedged between grinding plate and shredder ring, Stuck impeller lug, Small stones or debris lodged at chamber edge
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF the wall switch and isolate power at the breaker. Never work inside the disposal with power connected.
- Step 1 – Inspect chamber: Shine a light into the sink opening and identify any foreign objects.
- Step 2 – Remove obstruction: Use pliers or tongs to remove objects. Do not use your fingers.
- Step 3 – Free the plate: Insert a hex key into the bottom shaft socket (if present) and gently rock back and forth. Alternatively, use a wooden tool from above to rotate the plate until it moves freely.
- Step 4 – Reset if needed: If the overload has tripped, press the red reset button.
- Step 5 – Test: Restore power, run cold water, and test briefly. If humming persists, the motor may be seized.
Warning: Prolonged humming without rotation can overheat and damage the motor.
