Possible Causes
Minor leak at sink flange or plumbing dripping onto Astracast housing, Condensation on cold water pipes above disposal, Damaged insulation on power cord, Moisture inside junction box
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Leave the GFCI/RCD tripped and turn OFF the main breaker before working under the sink.
- Step 1 – Locate moisture source: Inspect for leaks at the sink flange, discharge elbow, dishwasher inlet, and nearby pipes. Repair any leaks.
- Step 2 – Dry area: Thoroughly dry the underside of the sink, the Astracast housing, and the junction box. Allow time for internal moisture to evaporate.
- Step 3 – Inspect wiring: Open the junction box and check for corrosion or dampness. Replace any corroded connectors and re-insulate wires.
- Step 4 – Reset and test: Restore power and reset the GFCI/RCD. Test the disposal. If it trips again without visible moisture, internal leakage or insulation failure may exist.
- Step 5 – Replace unit if needed: Persistent ground faults with a dry installation indicate internal failure; replace the Astracast disposal.
Warning: Never bypass a GFCI/RCD; it is critical for shock protection.
