Possible Causes

Tripped kitchen circuit breaker, Faulty wall switch controlling the Astracast disposal, Loose or burned line connection in Astracast junction box, Failed Astracast motor start capacitor (if equipped)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Always switch OFF the wall switch and turn OFF power at the breaker panel before working on an Astracast garbage disposal. Verify power is off using a non-contact voltage tester.

  • Step 1 – Check the breaker: Locate the kitchen/small appliance breaker in your consumer unit. Reset if tripped. Turn the wall switch for the disposal ON and test again.
  • Step 2 – Inspect the wall switch: With power OFF, remove the switch cover. Check for loose wires on the switch terminals. Tighten any loose screws. If the switch feels hot, cracked, or intermittent, replace it with a like-rated switch.
  • Step 3 – Check Astracast junction box: Under the sink, locate the electrical junction box or wiring compartment on the Astracast unit. With power OFF, remove the cover and inspect wire nuts and terminal block for loose or burned connections. Re-strip and reconnect wires securely if needed.
  • Step 4 – Test incoming voltage: With power restored and using a multimeter, verify 220–240 V (or 110–120 V depending on your region) at the disposal input terminals when the switch is ON. If voltage is present but the unit is dead, the internal components (motor or capacitor) may have failed.
  • Step 5 – Reset and retest: Turn power OFF, press the red reset/overload button on the bottom of the Astracast disposal, restore power, and test again. If it still does not respond, internal repair or replacement is required.

Warning: If you smell burning or see melted insulation, discontinue use and contact a qualified technician.
