Possible Causes
Loose wire nut in Astracast junction box, Failing wall switch contacts, Loose internal motor lead connection, Damaged flexible power cord (if corded model)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF power at the breaker and verify with a non-contact tester before touching any wiring.
- Step 1 – Inspect wall switch: Remove the switch cover and check for loose wires. Tighten terminal screws and replace the switch if it feels loose or inconsistent.
- Step 2 – Check junction box: Under the sink, open the Astracast junction box or wiring compartment. Inspect wire nuts and terminal block for loose or corroded connections. Re-strip and reconnect as needed.
- Step 3 – Examine power cord: For plug-in models, inspect the cord for cuts, kinks, or burn marks. Replace the cord set if damaged.
- Step 4 – Internal connections: If external wiring is sound, the intermittent fault may be inside the motor housing. These connections are not user-serviceable.
- Step 5 – Replace unit if needed: If tapping the unit affects operation after external wiring is confirmed good, replace the Astracast disposal.
Warning: Never operate a disposal with exposed or damaged wiring.
