Possible Causes
Failed Astracast motor start capacitor, Loose capacitor terminals, Faulty centrifugal start switch inside motor, Degraded start winding
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF power at the breaker and discharge any capacitors before handling. Capacitors can store dangerous charge.
- Step 1 – Access capacitor: On models equipped with an external start capacitor, remove the access cover on the side of the Astracast motor housing.
- Step 2 – Inspect visually: Look for bulging, leaking, or cracked capacitor casing. If damaged, it must be replaced with an identical microfarad (µF) and voltage rating component.
- Step 3 – Check connections: Ensure capacitor terminals are firmly attached and not corroded.
- Step 4 – Replace capacitor: If you have the correct replacement and are competent with electrical work, swap the capacitor, observing polarity if marked. Otherwise, have a technician perform this step.
- Step 5 – Test unit: Restore power and test operation with water running. If the motor still fails to start properly, the internal start switch or windings may be defective, requiring unit replacement.
Warning: Incorrect capacitor replacement can cause fire or motor damage; always match specifications.
