Possible Causes
Overheating Astracast motor windings, Excessive load from hard food waste on grinding plate, Partially seized lower motor bearing, Failing thermal overload protector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF power at the wall switch and breaker before inspection.
- Step 1 – Adjust usage: Run cold water at full flow before, during, and after operation. Feed waste gradually instead of all at once. Avoid fibrous materials (celery, corn husks) and hard bones.
- Step 2 – Clear residual jams: Use a hex key on the bottom motor shaft socket (if present) to rotate the shaft freely. From above, use a wooden tool to ensure the grinding plate spins without resistance.
- Step 3 – Inspect for overheating: After a trip, feel the outer casing (carefully). If it is very hot, allow 20–30 minutes to cool before resetting. Persistent overheating suggests motor or bearing issues.
- Step 4 – Reset and test: Press the red reset button until it clicks. Restore power and test with a small amount of soft food waste. If it trips again quickly, internal components are likely failing.
- Step 5 – Plan replacement: Repeated overload trips usually indicate a failing motor or overload protector. Replacement of the motor assembly or complete Astracast unit is recommended.
Warning: Do not bypass or tape down the overload protector; it is a critical safety device.
