Possible Causes
Misaligned Astracast discharge elbow, Damaged or missing discharge gasket, Loose slip nut on discharge outlet, Cracked Astracast discharge outlet collar
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF power at the breaker and do not operate the disposal while leaks are present.
- Step 1 – Dry and inspect: Wipe the area around the discharge outlet dry. Run a small amount of water without operating the disposal to pinpoint the leak source.
- Step 2 – Tighten connections: Use adjustable pliers to gently tighten the slip nut on the Astracast discharge elbow. Do not overtighten, as this can crack plastic components.
- Step 3 – Check gasket: Disassemble the discharge elbow and inspect the rubber or fiber gasket. Replace if it is flattened, cracked, or missing. Ensure it is seated evenly before reassembly.
- Step 4 – Inspect outlet collar: Examine the molded outlet collar on the Astracast housing for hairline cracks. If cracked, the housing cannot be reliably sealed and the unit should be replaced.
- Step 5 – Re-test: Reassemble, run water, and check for leaks before restoring power and using the disposal.
Warning: Do not use sealants that are not rated for potable water and high vibration; improper sealants can fail and contaminate water.
